Cheap Apple iPod Nano

The iPod nano is Apple's fourth digital audio player combining features of both the iPod shuffle and iPod. It was introduced on September 7, 2005, replacing the iPod mini, which was discontinued on the same day. The replacement of the mini took Macintosh websites and the press completely by surprise since, although there were rumors about a new flash memory-based iPod, there was no prior notice of the mini being discontinued.

Work on development of the new design of the iPod nano started only nine months before the launch date. The iPod nano has more flash memory storage than is used in the iPod shuffle and has a miniaturized version of the color screen and click wheel found on the full-sized iPods. The screen also has a higher resolution than the old grayscale iPod, allowing one more line of text than the mini's screen. The battery and other internal parts were also reduced in size. The surface of the click wheel is slightly rough, allowing greater tactile feedback for out-of-sight operation.

Overview

Size comparison of iPod nano and standard-sized mouse.Advertising emphasizes the iPod nano's small size: it is 1.6 inches (40 mm) wide, 3.5 inches (90 mm) long, 0.27 inches (6.9 mm) thick and weighs 1.5 ounces (42 grams). Its stated battery life is 14 hours. The screen is 176 x 132 pixels, 1.5 inches (38 mm) diagonal, and can display 65,536 colors (16-bit color).

The iPod nano works with iTunes on Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows (third-party software is available for platforms that Apple does not support). It connects through the same proprietary dock connector as the third-generation iPod, the fourth-generation iPod, and the iPod mini, using a USB 2.0 port on the user's computer. Although it uses the same connection of Apple's FireWire iPod Cable and can charge its battery over FireWire, the iPod nano does not support synchronizing over a FireWire connection. The iPod nano includes a stop watch and a multiple time zone clock function. There is also a combination lock feature that makes use of the click wheel to lock the iPod, and serves to secure the user's calendar and contact information. It was also the first iPod to include a new lyrics screen, modifiable using iTunes.

The nano was launched in two colors (black or white) with two available sizes: 2 GB (roughly 500 songs) for $ 199 USD and 4 GB (1000 songs) for $ 249 USD. On February 7, 2006, Apple updated the lineup with the 1 GB model (240 songs) sold at $ 149. Apple also released some accessories, including armbands and silicone "tubes" designed to bring color to the nano and protect it from scratches, as well as a combination lanyard-earphone accessory that hangs around the neck, and avoids the problem of tangling earphone cords.

The iPod nano uses flash memory instead of a hard disk. As a result, it has no moving parts, making it immune to skipping and far more durable than disk-based players. The tradeoff is, like with all flash memory, it has a finite number of read / write cycles. Testing by technology-enthusiast website Ars Technica has shown that even after being driven over twice by a car, the unit's screen was damaged but that it could still play music. The unit finally stopped playing music after being thrown 40 feet into the air.

Although the iPod nano costs more than the iPod mini range it replaced, it should be noted that the iPod nanos are priced exactly the same as the iPod minis (2 + 4GB) were when they were first launched back in 2004. Unlike previous iPods, Apple is not offering an optional FireWire cable for the iPod nano (nor the fifth-generation iPod). The lack of the remote connector found on the top of the iPod mini and Generations 3 and 4 of the iPod meant that a number of third-party accessories will not work with the iPod nano. However, since the removal of the remote connector from the main iPod line to the switch of the Universal Dock connector, manufacturers have been forced to develop alternatives to accessories that used it. The nano also lacks the TV-out and voice recording options of the larger iPods. Apple has also said that, unlike other iPods capable of storing photos, the iPod nano will not work with either Apple's iPod Camera Connector or any camera connectors from third-party manufacturers.

Nike + iPod, released May 23, 2006, is one of the many accessories designed specifically for the iPod nano. The advantages of the Nike + iPod is to sync information including the distance traveled, running pace, or burned calories to the Nike + website.

Electronics
The iPod nano uses general-purpose integrated circuits (IC) instead of smaller, low cost custom developed chips, possibly to reduce time-to-market. This design, however, increases the number of electronic components and increases the cost. Japanese engineers estimated the component cost of the 2 GB nano as between JPY22000 and JPY27000, which is high compared to the retail price of JPY21800. The cost of 2 GB NAND flash memory is about JPY14000. Apple opted for the higher cost 0603 (0.6 x 0.3mm) components, the latest surface mount technology, as opposed to cheaper but larger 1005 (1.0 x 0.5mm) components. In fact, there remains available real estate on the motherboard.

Consumer reactions

iPod nanoThe initial consumer response to the iPod nano was overwhelmingly positive and sales were heavy. The nano sold its first 1 million units in only 17 days, helping Apple to a record billion-dollar profit in 2005.

Apple's release of the iPod nano as a replacement for the iPod mini is viewed by many as a risky move. The mini was not only Apple's most popular MP3 player, it was still the world's best-selling player up to the end of its lifespan; and sales of the mini did not appear to be slowing down. Steve Jobs has argued that the iPod nano is a necessary risk since competitors are beginning to catch up to the iPod mini in terms of design and features, and believes the iPod nano will prove to be even more popular and successful than the iPod mini. Analysts see this as part of the corporate culture of Apple, which relies heavily upon innovating to continue appealing to consumers.

Within days of the nano's release, some users reported damage to the nano, suggesting that the LCD screen had become so scratched that it was unreadable, even when the backlight was on. Many have reported fine scratches on their nano caused by microfiber cloths. Other owners reported that their nano's screen cracked with no provocation. On September 27, Apple confirmed a small percentage ("less than 1/10 of 1 percent") of iPod nanos shipped with a faulty screen and agreed to replace any nanos with cracked screens , but denied the iPod nano was more susceptible to scratching than prior iPods.Apple started shipping iPod nanos with a protective sleeve to protect them from scratches. In October 2005, a class action lawsuit was filed against Apple, with the plaintiffs seeking reimbursement for the device, legal fees, and "unlawful or illegal profits" from sales of the iPod nano. Lawyers for the plaintiffs claim that the devices "scratch excessively during normal use, rendering the screen on the nanos unreadable, and violating state consumer protection statutes". Similar lawsuits were later filed in Mexico and the United Kingdom. have criticized the lawsuits. Hesseldahl dismissed them as "stupid" and suggested that they benefitted "no one but the trial lawyers," but also suggested that Apple could have avoided litigation by offering "full refunds on unwanted nanos" instead of charging a re-stocking fee and lengthening the return period from 14 (if bought online) or 10 (if bought at retail) to 30 or 60 days.

Pope Benedict XVI owns a white 2GB iPod nano, becoming the first Pope to own an iPod.

Top 5 Advantages of Android Over Apple iOS

Both Google and Apple have been striving to get most of the smartphone market share. And the race has been going on for more than 5 years. As far as direct sales are concerned, Apple devices run circles around Android devices. However, nowadays, things have changed and the sales of Android devices are going up. This is clearly due to the advantages offered by Android and the Android apps. Let's read more about it.

1. Open Ecosystem

Unlike Apple, you can choose to download apps from a source other than the Google Play Store. This is the liberty that you can't enjoy with an iOS phone or tablet. You can go to the website of an app developer and install any app from there. For instance, you can download and install apps from F-Droid, Getjar, Appstore and Amazon, just to name a few.

Of course, there is some risk involved when getting apps from third parties, but you are not bound to install apps from a single source. So, you have a choice here.

2. Cheaper apps

If you have a smartphone, you need apps to get the most out of your device. For iOS users, the apps may not be cheap. However, if you are on Android, you can choose from millions of free apps. So, you play nothing for them. Moreover, even if you want to get paid apps, they are dirt cheap. On the other hand, iOS apps cost a minimum of 69p. so, this is another advantage that you can enjoy if you go for this OS.

3. Customizable UI

From the day one, Google engineers and developers have been working together to make the US of Android as customizable as possible. As a result, you can see that the OS today has tons of widgets that can be easily customized. You can put them anywhere on the User Interface where you can get access to other things, such as media feeds, calendar and email, to name a few. So, this addition makes it easier for you to tune the UI based on your professional needs.

4. Flexible

If you are an app developer and you want to put your app on the iOS app store, you are required to submit your application. The company is very strict as far as getting software onto its platform.

On the other hand, Android is open and offers Software Developer Kit (SDK) that works across many platforms. So, it's easier for companies to develop apps and launch them on Android for users to download.

5. NFC Support

iOS is not NFC enabled despite the fact that there is a lot of potential for NFC. For instance, this feature can help with cashless payment systems like Google Wallet, which encourages use to be a cashless society. Moreover, NFC can be used to automate tasks.

So, if you love downloading an installing new apps for free, we suggest that you go for an Android phone because Android offers all the benefits mentioned above. Hope this helps.

Apple Cider Vinegar – A Natural Arthritis Tonic

Using apple cider vinegar for arthritis is something that has been done for centuries. There are many reasons for this that you should be aware of. Apple cider vinegar actually has many medicinal benefits and relieving arthritis pain is one of them.

One thing to know about arthritis is that it can be characterized by the formation of crystallized uric acid around the joints. The use of apple cider vinegar is recommended to break down these crystals. This is done by the malic acid that is one of the active compounds of this type of vinegar. The acid will break down the crystals so they can pass out of the body. It should be noted that this does not prevent them from forming.

Inflammation is something that people with arthritis also suffer from. This type of vinegar can help with this as well because it is a natural antioxidant. The antioxidant properties will reduce the inflammation around the joints. Additionally it is thought that this reduction will help to slow the progress of the condition. Pain relief is also something that this vinegar can help with. The malic and acetic acids in the vinegar also help the body fight infections.

How To Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Fight Arthritis Pain

There are two common ways in which people can administer apple cider vinegar for arthritis. One is through a compress. To do this, you will heat a solution of one part apple cider vinegar to six parts water. When the mixture is hot to the touch then take it off the heat and soak a cloth in it. Ring out the excess and put it onto aching joints.

Another way to administer this vinegar is as a tonic. Many people take a tablespoon two times a day. It is possible to take this vinegar straight if you do not mind the taste. You could also mix a tablespoon full into a glass of water and have it that way or you can make a tea with a teaspoon of natural honey.

You can’t go wrong trying apple cider vinegar for arthritis. The cost of this natural remedy is minimal and the benefits are too numerous to mention. Also buy the brand that has organic raw unfiltered apples to get the best results.

10 Reasons to Add Apple Cider Vinegar to Your Diet

Many people have a bottle of apple cider vinegar (ACV) somewhere in the kitchen. Chefs add it sparingly to enhance the flavor of certain dishes or as a salad dressing. They may start using it a bit more if they knew how beneficial this sour-tasting liquid actually is.

Apple cider vinegar has been used as a folk remedy to cure everything from warts to the flu. Although many claims remain unproven, medical professionals are convinced that adding a splash to your diet may be quite healthy. Experts suggest drinking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with water or juice every day. Here are 10 reasons why.

  1. This liquid, which contains acetic acid, has antibiotic properties, which you need when suffering from diarrhea caused by a bacterial infection.
  2. The pectin in apple cider vinegar can help control intestinal spasms and indigestion.
  3. Do you have a sore throat? Gargle infections and nasty germs away with a concoction of a quarter cup of warm water and a quarter cup of your special vinegar. The acid will kill the germs.
  4. Scientists believe, after completing studies on animals, that your newly discovered sour mixture is also capable of lowering cholesterol in humans. More tests are needed.
  5. Are you often plagued by a stuffy nose or nasal congestion? The potassium in raw apple cider vinegar can thin mucus.
  6. Acetic acid can suppress a person’s food cravings, reduce water retention, and increase metabolism. Consuming fewer calories equal weight loss.
  7. Nobody wants dandruff. Mix a quarter cup of water and a quarter cup of this unique type of vinegar in a spray bottle. Spritz it on your scalp before washing your hair. Wrap a towel around your head for 15 minutes. This routine should be done at least twice a week. Your hair will also be shinier.
  8. Need a boost of energy? You now know what to drink to beat fatigue!
  9. Individuals with eczema problems can clear up their skin and prevent outbreaks by ingesting ACV diluted in water.
  10. Stop bothersome nighttime leg cramps through the potassium found in apple cider vinegar. Make your new home remedy a little sweeter by adding a teaspoon of honey.

Choosing an Ideal Apple Phone

If you have already decided to buy an Apple iPhone, that is the first step. There are other things that you will have to consider so as to ensure that you end up with the one that will suit all your needs. Consider the carrier that you will use. You also need to determine if it will be possible to use the local SIM card in countries that you may visit. Consider also the memory and determine whether it is enough or not. The size of the screen should also be considered. You need to find out about the latest models. These are questions that need to be answered, not only when buying an iPhone but other things as well.

Carrier unlocked or subsidized

There are days in the past when the Apple iPhone had 8 or 4 GB memory and it used to work on very specific mobile networks. The iPhone is available in different sizes and with different memory capacities depending on the model, you purchase. You can choose to buy the phone with a contract or buy it unlocked and contract-free.

Buying the unlocked version is a great idea since you can use the phone using any of the carriers without needing a carrier. You can also use other SIM cards should you need to travel. When you have the freedom to use the iPhone everywhere, you will have more power to control your information.

Memory capacity

When choosing an iPhone, you need to consider the memory capacity. With the iPhone, there is no slot where you can fit on an extra memory card. The capacity you get after the purchase is what you will remain with throughout the life of the phone. If you do not need much space, then a low capacity phone will work just fine. However, if you want music, pictures, and high definition videos, then you will need an iPhone that has a large capacity.

The model

The model is also an important consideration. There are two screen sizes so far. This means that some of the iPhones have the same dimensions as well as resolutions. The phones also have the Retina display. If you want the larger screen, the iPhone 5 is the best choice. The screen is much wider than other models and this makes a difference. The iPhone 4 and 4s have a sharp retina display, but a smaller screen.

Flexibility

You may be looking for flexibility. If this is the case, then you will need an iPhone that has Siri. Siri is a virtual assistant that is controlled by voice. For this, an iPhone 4S or newer should work just fine. Facetime is another feature that the iPhones have. This is the video call service. For purposes of flexibility, you also need to consider the camera resolutions of the phone. The phones have different resolutions for the front and the back cameras.

You should appreciate the fact that the newer versions of the Apple iPhones are a bit on the expensive side. You will need to choose a phone that will be ideal for your needs and one that suits your budget.

Can I Trust the Apple Store for Mac Repairs and Service?

Apple Store, Mac Reseller or Authorized Apple Service Provider? Which one is best for my MacBook and MacBook Pro Repairs?

If there is one thing that most Mac owners do not think about a lot, its finding a Mac repair shop. In fact, many fans of Apple Mac related products think all they need to know about is that, Shrine of 21st century technology, the Apple Store.

Fortunately, there’s a good chance you could have a Mac for years and never have to take it to a Mac Store/Mac reseller or look up an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for a service or repair. Macintosh is known to create the most reliable computers and electronic devices money can buy. But there are some valuable tips you should know if you end up needing a Mac repair.

Finding an Apple service provider you can trust may seem difficult, but sometimes only a matter of knowing what you are trying to avoid.

Do not get your Mac fixed in an Apple retail location.

Try to find Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) in your area instead. When you take your MacBook to an Apple repair store or Mac reseller, they have an interest in selling you a new computer. You want a Mac repair technician who will give you all your options; someone who’s main motivation is “NOT” to sell you a new Apple Computer, but to save you money while providing you with the best solution. Apple Stores and Mac resellers may try to sell solutions that you don’t really need.

Avoid the long wait and go directly to the Apple repair shop.

If you have been planning to take your MacBook to an Apple Store for a repair, you may be in for a long wait. Not only will you wait in to speak with a technician at the Genius Bar, you’ll wait even longer to get your computer back. Many Mac repairs brought to the Apple Store end up being sent to the local Authorized Apple Repair Shop to be fixed. So why not start by visiting the Authorized Apple Repair Shop directly?

Your typical AASP will offer more upgrade options than the Mac Store.

Looking for a Mac repair on an old laptop or desktop model? Your local Apple Store or Mac reseller may not be able to work on it. If you want to upgrade your old Mac computer memory, add a new power supply or a CD/DVD drive, then your Apple Store will send your computer directly to an authorized Mac repair shop. Even current models have limited upgrade options.

Do you need an upgrade performed at your place of business, or are you dealing with minor damage to your personal MacBook? Skip the Apple Store and give an Apple Authorized Service Provider a call.

Apple iPhone 6S Review

A few months ago Apple released the iPhone 6S and if you're not familiar with the Apple practice you may be confused about this new iPhone as it looks identical to the iPhone 6 but fear not they are not the same. On the inside at least.

There is better hardware, improved camera, stronger case, the new 3D Touch and (at last) 2GB of RAM. Over the years the 'S' always brought something new to the plate, the iPhone 4S added Siri and the iPhone 5S had the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

The main addition to the iPhone 6s is definitely the new pressure-sensitive touchscreen technology named the 3D Touch that although right now is quite awesome and will definitely become more interesting when more apps are released for it.

Overall, what Apple has to do is to convince people that the S variant of iPhone 6 is worth the upgrade, even if there are a lot of other smartphones to choose from and unfortunately the iPhone 6S doesn't seem like a game changer, it only has some subtle upgrades that do have a lot of potential with future updates or installments.

Design

At first glance, the iPhone 6S seems identical to the iPhone 6, it has the same rounded corners and edges, but there are some subtle design changes.

The front of the phone is now stronger, the glass being less likely to shatter if the phone is dropped and lastly, the iPhone 6S is now made of the 7000 series aluminum.

As said before, these changes are subtle and will most likely go unnoticed by most. The volume buttons, the silencer switch and the power key are in the same place as last year and this isn't a bad thing because the phone is easy to operate with one hand and the buttons are exactly where they should be.

As a side note, the iPhone 6S is compatible with iPhone 6 cases.

Design

The iPhone 6S seems to have the same display as the iPhone 6, featuring a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1334x750p, 16 million colors and a pixel density of 326ppi.

Although there are far cheaper phones that offer 1080p resolution or even 4K display (which is a serious overkill!), The iPhone 6S still offers a great display experience, being crisp and clear, with deep blacks, bright whites and very accurate colors.

While the resolution stays the same there is one major addition from the last year flagship. You are now presented with the 3D Touch which offers a completely new way to interact with the iPhone.

This opens up whole new possibilities. If right now you can only open pop-up windows, trigger quick actions or expand, preview links and messages and there is a lot that can be done in the future.

Performance

The iPhone 6S features better hardware than the iPhone 6, with an Apple A9 Chipset, 1.84GHz dual-core Typhoon CPU, six-core PowerVR GT7600 GPU, 2GB RAM and, still, no card slot.

This translates into smoother multitasking, better handling of graphically-demanding tasks (like playing games), there was no stuttering, no dropped frames and the phone never lagged while we used it.

But there are some shortcomings. Apple decided to keep 16GB as base memory for iPhone 6S and because there isn't a microSD slot, filling up those 16GB will happen in no time.

Software

The iOS has always been the backbone of the iPhones and the new installment, the iOS 9 offers the same stability and user-friendliness we were accustomed to and thanks to its subtle tweaks over the years and the new added 3D touch, the iOS 9 is the best iPhone software to date.

As always, the iOS is quick and responsive, the App Store is still vibrant (and of higher quality than Google Play Store) and the apps have suffered some transformations and upgrades.

The Apple Maps, now, has transit directions, there is a News app, that is quite basic, pulling topics from different sources in a magazine-style interface. Notifications are now filtered by time, not by app and thanks to the M9 coprocessor, Siri is always on standby you can now you can wake it by yelling Hey Siri instead of pressing a button. Siri, also, can respond to a lot more commands.

The 3D Touch is its main feature and although in its infancy, is implemented the best with Apple's Mail. You can preview messages, archive them or mark them as unread.

Battery Life

The iPhone 6S features a non-removable 1715 mAh battery. Yes, you heard that right, the battery is actually smaller, a downgrade from the iPhone 6's 1810mAh.

There have been complaints about the battery from the iPhone 6 and yeah, Apple didn't quite addressed this issue. Anyway, the battery life averaged at 15 to 16 hours a day and there are a lot of people who need to recharge their iPhone 6S during the mid-afternoon.

It's not like it isn't understandable, the reason being the implementation of 3D Touch. The battery did not have enough space and they wanted to keep the same design as iPhone 6. Still, there are lots of smartphones that feature 4000mAh and battery life is usually a deciding factor for buyers.

Conclusion

Is iPhone 6S a great phone? Yes, it is. It does have its unique features and they promise a great deal in future updates. Is it worth upgrading over iPhone 5S? The users of iPhone 5S are the main target, the iPhone 6S being leagues ahead from all points of view (better camera, larger screen, better display, higher performance, a lot more stable).

But can Apple convince iPhone 6 users to upgrade to 6S? Maybe. Right now, the iPhone 6S doesn't offer something revolutionary and it is pretty close to the iPhone 6, but it may be worth getting a taste of these early installments (like 3D Touch) ahead of everyone, before it gets widespread. And if you want to switch from Android or Windows or you're just curious how iOS works, then the iPhone 6S is the best choice.
